The Importance of Knowing What it Means to be in Christ

Those who read this lesson have the potential to know things I didn’t learn until years after receiving salvation. It wasn’t that God withheld the truths you’re about to learn, nor did those around me keep these truths to themselves.

We just didn’t know. We didn’t know because, although the words were in our Bibles, no one I knew at the time was teaching these basic truths. Some were out there; I just didn’t know of any.

What does it mean to be in Christ? Is this some mystical phrase that only the seasoned elite can fathom, or is the meaning so simple that a child can understand it?

For all of Jesus’s earthly ministry He used simple illustrations to teach spiritual principles. Seeds to teach faith; water as a type of the Holy Spirit; bread for the body compared to God’s Word.

The term “in Christ” refers to being in God’s Kingdom, made up of those, like you, who have confessed (declared) Jesus as Lord, out of a believing heart. All others are out of Christ.

Being in Christ means that you are now in God’s Church. God’s Church isn’t referring to a local congregation, but to all those, world wide, who have accepted Jesus as Lord into their hearts.

Being in Christ means that you are a part of something bigger than you, something you won’t ever see with natural eyes, yet which poses a threat to Satan, the devil. It means being a part of those through whom God is working in the earth today, to carry out His will, plans and purposes.

To know that you’re in Christ is to know that all of who God is, and what He has done (and is doing) for you is yours, in Christ. Not just with and for you. IN you. This truth belongs to all believers in the world today. No exceptions. To every believer, including you.

Some will see this marvelous truth sooner than others. Keep feeing on the truth that God, by the Holy Spirit, is IN you. In YOU! Say this, “The Living God is living IN me now.” Say this, even when it doesn’t seem like it’s true-because it IS true! All the time, no matter what’s happening.

The best way to see this truth is to simply do what God says to do, in Proverbs 4:20-22. He says to:

  1. Attend to His Word

  2. To incline our ear unto His sayings.

  3. Don’t let (allow) God’s Words to depart from our eyes.

  4. Keep them (God’s Words) in the midst (middle) of our hearts.

Why? Because God’s Words are life to those who find them; health (medicine) to all their flesh.

These aren’t my words; they’re God’s. He said them; I’m just saying what He’s already said.

Being in Christ gives you the ability to establish His kingdom upon this earth, through His Word. And this earth begins the moment you walk outside the door of where you live.
